AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) -- Members of the Lifetime Fitness on South Mopac were sent a courtesy e-mail on Saturday informing them of the pool closure as a result of the drowning which occurred Friday. The e-mail included plans to re-open the outdoor pool Sunday.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, a 4-year-old boy was pulled from the pool, the victim of a near drowning. Witnesses say the little boy was directly under the lifeguard stand, hard to see, in distress. Once aware of the situation, the lifeguard pulled the boy out of the pool and immediately started CPR even using a defibrillator to try to get his heart beating.
Austin EMS says they were able to revive his pulse just as they were pulling up to Dell Children's Medical Center. The boy is now in Dell's Intensive Care Unit, in critical condition.
