Austin Energy to purchase biomass plant

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) -- Austin Energy plans to purchase all power produced by a proposed East Texas biomass plant.

The purchase power agreement would be for a 20-year period at a projected cost of $2.3 billion.

An informational town hall meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at the Austin City Hall at 7 p.m.

The presentation will include powerpoint presentations by Nacogdoches Power on the operational dynamics of the proposed plant and by General Manager Roger Duncan on the stratetgy behind the purchase power agreement and the cost to Austin Energy customer utility bills.
