AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) -- Austin Energy customers used their electricity at peak levels Tuesday, setting an all-time usage record.

The utility provider said triple-digit temperatures helped to push usage to 2,446 megawatts, breaking a record set in September 2006.

The company expects to see more peak usage records, especially as this month has been turning out to be the hottest June on record, and the forecast calls for a warmer-than-normal summer.

Austin Energy spokesman Carlos Cordova said the utility could also see peak electricity usage for Wednesday, as temperatures shot up to 100 F mid-afternoon.

Cordova said Austin Energy will have data on Wednesday's usage by early Thursday.
