St. John Lutheran gym likely a total loss

LINCOLN, Texas (KXAN) -

Strong winds Wednesday morning heavily damaged the gym at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Pastor Dale Bohm spent the day assessing the damage. He said the building is likely a total loss.

"It looks like it might still completely come down," agreed church member Dennis Patichke. "I couldn't believe it. Looking across the road there, all the debris that scattered so far."

The winds spread insulation across a field across the street. Debris formed a nearly straight line about 200 yards long.

The storm ripped off a large portion of the gym's roof, and led a wall to cave in. A mangled scoreboard barely hung on.

"We used to have a school here. We had our sports inside the gym. Basketball, volleyball," said Patichke. "They're just all memories."

Nobody was inside the gym at the time, and the church did have insurance.

"We'll just rebuild," Patichke said. "A lot of the members will come out and help. The church has always been together."
