JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a Texas man who died kayaking on Mendenhall Lake in Juneau.

Erin Uloth, a spokeswoman for the Tongass National Forest, says 62-year-old Michael Ray Fullerton died after his kayak overturned late Sunday afternoon.

Uloth said Fullerton lives in Williamson County. Public records indicate Fullerton lived in Georgetown.

She says a group of family members from a cruise ship rented kayaks to take onto the lake, at the foot of Mendenhall Glacier. She says at some point, Fullerton got tired so the group tied the kayaks together. She couldn't say how many of the three kayaks overturned or why.

She says the group flagged down a canoeist for help, and Fullerton was in the water about 30 minutes. She says he was wearing a life jacket.

The Forest Service is leading the investigation.
