Two-alarm fire evacuates trailer park, gas station

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Two dozen firefighters battled a two-alarm structure fire located at 3424 FM 973 and Highway 71 just south of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The business was Allied Waste Service, which is a mechanic shop. The fire was finally under control around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A nearby gas station and an Austin Transitional Home park were evacuated.

EMS evaluated five people at the scene, and a Travis County Sheriff's Office deputy is being transported to South Austin Hospital for smoke inhalation, which does not appear to be serious. Crews expect to be on scene for several hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
