Two students killed in Burnet Co. wreck

BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Friends and family are mourning the loss of two Burnet teenagers who were killed in a car wreck early Sunday morning.

According to DPS, 17-year-old Robert "Hunter" Colvin was driving a 2004 Nissan on FM 2342 near Park Road 4 when he made a right hand turn at what investigators are calling an unsafe speed. The vehicle rolled over and crashed into a tree, killing Colvin and his 18-year-old passenger Joshua Brown.

Investigators said both Burnet County students were wearing their seat belts at the time of the wreck. The crash remains under investigation.

Friends of the teens stopped by the crash site Monday morning.

"You couldn't be around them and not laugh," said Bayley Hutson, one of Hunter's best friends.  "They were always cracking jokes."

Beca McElroy who took pre-calculus with Hunter told KXAN she will always remember him coming to school wearing the same black jacket, torn jeans and checkered Vans shoes.

"He loved that jacket," said McElroy.

Both McElroy and Hutson picked through the crash debris and took home parts of Hunter's car. They plan on making jewelry and keepsakes out of what they collect.

"I just had to come down here to see this, to make it real," Hutson said.

Friends said both teens were playing a card game similar to Pokemon at  a Kingsland arcade Saturday night and were spotted in the early morning hours at a party.

Hutson told KXAN Hunter nor Joshua would ever drink and get behind the wheel.

Hunter's grandfather and uncle also showed up at the crash site.

Both were too emotional to talk.

Hunter and Joshua were in a band and had aspirations to land a record deal.

Brown's visitation is 6-8 p.m. March 22 at Edgar Funeral Home off Main Street in Burnet.

Joshua's funeral will be held  at 10:30 a.m. at the Church at the Epicenter in Burnet.

A memorial fund in his honor has also been set up at the church to help build a student center.

Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. for Hunter Tuesday at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at First United Methodist Church.  Hunter will be laid to rest at  Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.
