AUSTIN (KXAN) - State Rep. Rene Oliveira of Brownsville was taken to an Austin hospital as a precaution after totaling his car in crash on Thursday morning.
It was not immediately clear how many vehicles were involved or what caused the wreck.
An aide said Oliviera, a Democrat who was first elected to the House in 1981, at first did not want to be taken to the hospital but decided it would be best if he were examined.
This is the second traffic wreck involving a House member in the past week. On March 14, El Paso Democrat Naomi Gonzalez was charged with driving while intoxicated after police said she started a chain-reaction wreck on South Congress Avenue near Barton Springs Road.
Gonzalez suffered minor injuries, as did two others.
