Doctor rallies against smoking ban

Dr. Bob Deuell is petitioning for business rights

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Sen. Rodney Ellis is working the Senate floor to get two-thirds of the members to vote to bring his smoking ban bill to the floor.

One of the big hold-outs is none other than Dr. Bob Deuell, who said he is against smoking but for business rights.

Ironically, Deuell voted in favor of banning trans fats at restaurants, which some could claim is a violation of business rights.

When asked about his reasoning, he said "people know they are smoking; they don't always know what they're eating."

The doctor said he debated this issue with his wife and decided to stay on the side of businesses, pointing out that when he goes to restaurants across the state, he rarely encounters people smoking inside, therefore it must not be a problem.
