AUSTIN (KXAN) - Several former death row inmates who were proven to have been wrongly convicted were in Austin on Friday to call attention to their desire for reforms in the criminal justice system.
"There are some true questions as the true guilt of some of the people that were executed -- some of the people that are still on death rows around the country," director of communications and training for Witness to Innocence. "You (don't always) know if you have the right person. It's hard to be completely sure."
Krone, who is an exoneree, said that his organization, which provides legal assistance for inmates who have demonstrate some credibile doubt over whether they were properly convicted, has helped free about 20 wrongly convicted death row inmates.
Of them, about a half dozen "have been traveling all over the state ... to bring awareness to the fact that there are innocent people right here in your state, in your capital of Texas, that are sitting on death row" because of flaws in the system.
