Wildfire near Fort Hood closer to containment

Could be under control late Wednesday

MOODY, Texas (AP) — Firefighters believe they are nearing containment of a stubborn wildfire that has burned 405 acres in Central Texas and driven people from their homes.

Texas A&M Forest Service spokesman Mary Kay Hicks Allen said Wednesday afternoon bulldozers have established a fire line around 60 percent of the Iron Bridge Park fire along Belton Lake, near Fort Hood. She says fire officials expect to contain the fire fully overnight.

No injuries or structural damage has been reported and displaced residents have been allowed to return home.

The fire started Sunday with a campfire. Officials previously said the fire was contained but winds gusting up to 40 mph Tuesday fanned the flames. Allen says firefighters have made progress Wednesday as winds have calmed.

The location is about 35 miles southwest of Waco.
