AUSTIN (KXAN) - Former Houston Mayor Bill White and Gov. Rick Perry will both be in Austin on Thursday.
White is expected to speak about his plans for border security at the Hilton Austin Airport hotel .
Both candidates have said the mission should be a federal one.
Perry spoke earlier Thursday morning at the Austin Regional Clinic.
He had extended an invitation but was denied by President Barack Obama to speak one-on-one twice in the past month regarding border issues.
Obama made several stops in Austin on Aug. 9, and Perry took the opportunity then to personally greet the president as soon as he got off the plane at the airport.
Besides exchanging pleasantries in a meet-and-greet that lasted less than a minute, the governor also gave a letter to Obama - outlining in the four-page document recent reports of violence along the Texas-Mexico border to reiterate the Lone Star state's needs when it comes to border security.
