AUSTIN (KXAN) - The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 6 General Election is Oct. 9.
Citizens are urged to register online or at local registration drives. Applications must be submitted to the Texas Secretary of State's office on or before the deadline.
On Sunday in East Austin, one community got a jump-start by holding a registration drive at the Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Another community, The League of United Latin American Citizens and El Concillio Mexican- American Neighborhoods, conducted a number of registration drives with hopes they can encourage other citizens to ultimately go out there and vote.
For a list of early voting sites in Austin, visit the Travis County Clerk's website . Early voting dates are from Oct. 22 to Nov. 2.
As Monday, Oct. 8 is Columbus Day and many government offices will be closed, that gives one less day to citizens to complete their registration Oct. 9 deadline.
