Texas delegates prepared for hurricane

TAMPA, Florida (KXAN) - A number of local Republican delegates are in Tampa for the Republican National Convention beginning Monday, and they are prepared for Tropical Storm Isaac.

Texas delegates are staying about ten miles inland from downtown Tampa at the Saddlebrook Resort.

Their location may be less impacted by Tropical Storm Isaac, which could make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in the Florida Keys late Sunday.

Isaac is not expected to directly hit Tampa, but make for heavy rain and high winds in the city beginning Tuesday.

Delegates reported that from their location they will not have to cross any bridges to get to the Tampa Bay Times Forum and are insulated from other delegations staying in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater areas that are staying in hotels along the gulf coast's shore.

The Saddlebrook Resort is one location where FEMA may stage their operations according to some local delegates already in Florida.

Presumptive Presidential nominee Mitt Romney is scheduled to accept the party's nomination on Thursday night. His wife, Ann Romney, is scheduled to address the convention on Tuesday night, the day the storm could hit Tampa.
