AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is showing his support for the right to bear arms amidst rumors he will seek to run as a contender in the 2014 Texas gubernatorial race [a rumor which Abbott’s office has neither confirmed nor denied].
In a social media campaign on facebook , a political ad, paid for by Texans for Greg Abbott, seeks signatures for a petition supporting “your right to bear arms.”
The petition slams President Obama saying, “Our current President’s copy of the Constitution seems to be missing 1 very important amendment: the 2nd Amendment.”
It goes on further to point out, “President Obama has made no secret of his intentions to limit our right to bear arms as guaranteed in the 2nd Amendment.”
The petition further states that Obama threatened to invoke an “Executive Order if Congress did not act in a way he found satisfactory.”
The social media campaign comes a day after Abbott attended the Texas State Rifle Association’s convention gathering and gun show in Mesquite, Texas Saturday.
During a speech at the convention the Abbott touted "more guns" as a solution to curb violence.
”More guns equals less crime,” Abbott said.
The signature solicitation ends with a plea to join the cause and “sign the petition.”
Jerry Patterson, a contender for the Texas Lt. Governor seat is also running a social media campaign in support of gun rights via his website votepatterson.com .
Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst launched a campaign as well in support of the right to bear arms on his website.
