FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — The U.S. Senate has confirmed a general's assignment as the next commander at Fort Hood.

Maj. Gen. Mark A. Milley was confirmed Monday as the next commander of III Corps at the Central Texas post. He will formally assume his new command Dec. 20.

Milley will also be promoted to lieutenant general that day.

Milley served as the commander of Fort Drum, N.Y., prior to his posting at Fort Hood.

He will replace Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell, who was appointed to be the commanding general of the U.S. Army in Europe.
