SAN ANTONIO (NBC/WOAI) - A San Antonio Independent School District bus driver is dead following an accident involving two school buses in East Bexar County.
The wreck happened around 7 a.m. in front of Wagner High School on Foster Road near Candlemeadow.
Witnesses told officers the SAISD bus was heading north on Foster Road when the driver appeared to lose control. The bus hit the median and then crashed head-on into a Judson Independent School District bus heading south on the road.
Officials at the scene confirmed the driver of the SAISD school bus, a woman in her 60s, died. They are now checking to see if she had any sort of medical condition.
At least three students went to hospitals.
SAISD officials said five children were on the SAISD bus. Two of those students were taken to the hospital. The other three were picked up by family members.
SAISD said none of them appeared to be seriously injured.
About 40 students were on the Judson ISD school bus.
