CELINA, Texas (KXAS) - A North Texas father is facing third-degree felony charges after he allegedly told elementary school officials he had a gun as part of an experiment on school safety.
"The main thing that you learn is that it could be anybody at any time," said Celina ISD Superintendent Donny O'Dell of Ron Miller's greeting at his child's elementary school. "He told him he was a gunman and his target was on the inside - and I'm going inside, what are you going to do about it?"
Then Miller walked right through the school doors, into the office.
"He told them that he is a shooter and you're dead, and you're dead," O'Dell said.
But Miller never produced a weapon because, police said, he was conducting his own kind of vigilante safety drill to test school security. And what he proved had parents waiting for answers to questions.
"A guy walks in, makes threats," said father David Siano. "Everyone is sitting there terrified, doesn't know what to do - it shows that this is going to happen again."
It was a lesson, parents say, that was delivered poorly by Miller, but one that still leaves a lasting impression.
"I feel bad for the guy that did this, I know he's under some stress," Siano said. "His intent was probably just to say, hey, you've done nothing - and that's what it showed. So if that's what it takes - that's a shame. This guy gave up his life to make a point? I don't know if he was going to hurt anyone or not, but if there's anything that we've gotten out of this, is that we know that we are not prepared."
