SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry is campaigning with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst on the eve of the much-watched runoff election for Texas' Republican U.S. Senate nomination.
Perry will appear at a veterans group with Dewhurst in San Antonio on Monday. Then the pair will hold a fundraiser and visit a Dewhurst campaign phone bank in Dallas. The runoff is Tuesday.
The governor is solidifying mainstream Texas Republican Party support for Dewhurst against tea party favorite and former state Solicitor General Ted Cruz.
Dewhurst won the May 29 primary by 10 percentage points, but failed to get an outright majority. Some polls now show him trailing Cruz in the runoff to replace retiring Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
The race has drawn national attention as a test of a tea party insurgent against the traditional Republican choice.
