Doctors in Juarez protesting drug war

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) - Doctors at a state-run clinic in the violent Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez have staged a one-day strike to protest the cost in innocent lives of the wars between drug cartels.

The doctors also protested the threats and extortion that have come with the bloody drug-gang turf battles in the city across the border from El Paso, Texas.

Outside the clinic, medical personnel hung banners reading "Stop the Impunity."

One doctor was killed in July by a car bomb targeting police, while he was tending to a victim. Others have been threatened or kidnapped.
