AUSTIN (KXAN) - Debra Medina may be frequently overlooked in the Republican primary, but she has cast herself as being a candidate more conservative than either Gov. Rick Perry or US Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Often overlooked because she has neither the name recognition nor the fund-raising machine of her opponents, Medina is spending most of her time building grassroots support for her candidacy.

Both Perry and Hutchison have spoken about platforms in favor of small government. Medina, featured this week in an interview on the FoxNews online channel, goes even further. She'd like to abolish the property tax and replace it with a consumption tax for the state, a position to the right of ones tied to Perry and Hutchison. According to her campaign website, such a move could keep $3 billion in the economy and create 125,000 jobs,

Medina, who was born and raised in Beeville in South Texas, also mentioned the abuse of eminent domain when she appeared on Judge Andrew Napolitano's talk show. Napolitano describes his show as "raw freedom streaming online." Here is a YouTube video of Medina's appearance on Napolitano's show:
