FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - DNA evidence has led to an arrest in Arizona over the stabbing death of a Fort Worth teenager more than a quarter century ago.
The nude body of 18-year-old Ginger Lynn Hayden was discovered Sept. 5, 1984, in her home by her mother.
Police in Sierra Vista, Ariz., on Monday arrested 43-year-old Ryland Shane Absalon, who attended high school with Hayden and was a friend of a boy she had dated.
Absalon remained in custody on a capital murder charge, facing extradition to Texas.
Attorney Gary Udashen of Dallas, who represents Absalon, said relatives say the defendant had nothing to do with the killing.
Homicide Sgt. J.D. Thornton says Absalon was interviewed following the slaying, but denied involvement. Thornton says DNA testing on some evidence was done in 2009.
