AUSTIN, TX (KXAN) - Austinites had to wait an extra week for the chance to "go fly a kite" but oh, was it worth it!

A glorious day for kite-flying brought hundreds out to Zilker Park, some sending their latest kite creations into the air, others just enjoying the view.

The Zilker Kite Festival was originally set for last Sunday, but gloomy weather pushed it back to second Sunday in March.

It's the 82nd year for this Austin tradition.

The free admission always draws in plenty of families and amateurs but more experienced kite pros also enjoy the chance to show off.  As you'd expect a few kites had to be sacrificed to the "Tree Gods."
