AUSTIN, TX (KXAN) - Austin conservationists are offering an adventurous lesson in water management.
The 8th Annual Austin Cave Festival let hundreds of people get into some of the caves that make up the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer recharge zone.
The caves are carved by water flowing down to Barton Springs.
Organizers hope if folks see how it works they'll appreciate keeping the aquifer clean.
"Barton Springs is a jewel here in Austin, and also believe it or not a lot of people in Northern Hays and Southern Travis county get their water from the Edwards Aquifer."
Officials opened access to two caves Saturday, "Live Oak" and "Get Down."
The caves are usually closed to protect the environmentally sensitive areas.
