AUSTIN (KXAN) - Hays county is the fourth fastest growing county in the state. This year alone, the number of people living in Hays is expected to double. Kyle is leading the way with a population explosion of 32,000 people.

"You know everybody," said Brandee Otto, Kyle Resident. "Everybody knows everybody."

The weekend event called "Front Porch Days" promotes community. It is a nod to a simpler time when neighbors would get together and visit on their front porch.

"My husband and I first moved to Kyle 7 years ago," said Otto. "They started the development of Plum Creek, and I just knew this is where I had to live."

But that small town feel could become more big city. 32,000 people call Kyle home and that number is sure to increase. The city's population has already increased about 600% in the past decade.

With the population increase, there has been a business boom. Big companies have been moving in. Seton Medical Center Hays opened its doors for the first time back in October in preparation for an even bigger population boom.

"I saw a new high school open," said Jeanette Gonzalez, Kyle Resident. "I've seen many new elementary schools open, and along with it, I've seen a lot of businesses come to Kyle which is great."
