AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Celebration of Black History in East Austin Saturday.

The 12th Street East End Heritage Festival went on outside Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church. This is their 14th year.

It offers a good time, with music, food, and merchandise. There are also info booths, a Wellness Walk, and an art contest for young people.

Everything is geared toward educating people on the lesser-known aspects of Black History.

Even though we see some things in history, the highlights, the MLKs, the Malcom X's, there are so many more in the black community's history that have not been acknowledged, that people don't know about," said Sharon Ellerby.

Black History events are happening all around Central Texas this month.
