APD will help clean up Waller Creek

AUSTIN (KXAN) -  

Austin Police will fight the war on litter and graffiti Monday as part of the city's "Operation Reclaim Waller Creek".

A-P-D will join other city workers to improve safety and environmental conditions along the urban waterway.

Tomorrow's focus is cleaning up the stretch of the creek from Cesar Chavez to Lady Bird Lake - the initiative has already worked on areas upstream.

Officers say it's worth doing a little grunt work to clean up the area.....they've had issues with illegal activity along that portion of the creek.

And it's not just officers who'll be cleaning up, people with court-ordered community service will be there working, too.

"Don't drink and drive," said Aguinaga. "One crash is too many. One fatality is too many."
