GOP at odds over wooing Hispanics in TX

AUSTIN (AP) - Top Texas Republicans and party strategists recognize the GOP must reach out to Hispanic voters if the party is to retain its grip on Texas politics. However, some party factions, including tea party activists, say the GOP would risk losing their support if they do so.
 
The Austin American-Statesman reports the Republican base of white voters is aging and shrinking rapidly in its share of the overall electorate in the next several decades.

Texas GOP Chairman Steve Munisteri has made wooing Hispanic voters to Republican Party ranks a top priority. He says he just doesn't "want the party to be toast."
 
Meanwhile, Dallas tea party activist Katrina Pierson says many of her associates want less pandering to Hispanic voters and tougher immigration laws.
