DALLAS (AP) — Susan G. Komen for the Cure says the former chairman of the breast cancer charity's board of directors will retire from the panel and two new members have been elected.
Dr. LaSalle D. Leffall Jr. stepped down as chairman in March, not long after the foundation's decision to stop giving grants to Planned Parenthood for breast screenings brought an onslaught of criticism followed by a reversal. Leffall has been on the board since 2002.
Dallas-based Komen said the new members are Dallas attorney Alan D. Feld and Tricia Ory, former board president of Komen's affiliate in Charlotte, N.C. Ory becomes the board's second affiliate representative.
The second affiliate spot is among changes the organization made after the Planned Parenthood flap. Many affiliates were critical of the decision to pull funding.
