CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Fifty-six marijuana plants have been recovered at a Caldwell County residence that was originally searched for stolen property.
According to released documents, Caldwell County Sheriff's Office detectives went to the residence of 34-year-old Santos Miranda on an unrelated call over stolen saddles, a sword and a pair of spurs.
When officers arrived, a female gave written consent and let officers into the home where they found the stolen property in a closet and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from another bedroom in the house.
According to the arrest warrant, when officers investigated further they found 56 marijuana plants inside a room, which had four grow lights and humidifiers installed.
Miranda was spotted driving by the residence while detectives were there; he fled the scene. Several officers attempted to stop the suspect, who was in his vehicle, but didn't catch him. The suspect ditched the vehicle and ran into a nearby pasture eventually escaping detectives.
Miranda has been charged with evading arrest and detention with a vehicle, a third-degree felony.
Miranda is not in custody.
