BURLESON, Texas (AP) - The family of a Burleson man killed in a 2008 car wreck has been awarded $1 million in a lawsuit against a country club whose workers were accused of selling too much alcohol to a man convicted for causing the accident.

Lance Shetler died after his car collided with a vehicle driven by Mark Charles Pierce, a former Weatherford High School football star. Pierce, whose blood-alcohol level was nearly double the legal limit three hours later, is serving a 15-year prison sentence. A judge signed the final judgment order Friday against MNP Southern Oaks Private Club, doing business as Southern Oaks Country Club. The club's representatives could not be reached for comment.

Shetler's family alleged that the club continued to serve Pierce alcohol despite witness accounts that he was intoxicated.
