AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Federal Department of Justice released a report this week finding patients in state care were subject to neglect and sometimes even worse. "There have been several situations where individuals, where staff members have beaten up residents," said Beth Mitchell, an Advocacy Incorporated attorney. "Where they ahve thrown them down in restraints and have caused serious and significant injuries.
Advocacy Incorporated said Texas should stop using mechanical restraints and top dispensing psychiatric medication until alll suspicious cases can get reviewed. The report released this week found at least 53 preventable patient deaths in Texas' large residential facilities.
