MONAHANS, Texas - A sex abuse case against an ex-youth prison administrator in West Texas has stalled since his attorney was arrested.
Court filings show Scott M. Dolin of Austin was hired to defend Ray Brookins in the ongoing probe of sexual abuses at a Texas Youth Commission jail.
The Texas Attorney General's office says Dolin stopped appearing in court after being arrested.
Prosecutors learned of the arrest in February. Courts records do not indicate what charges Dolin was arrested on or where.
Dolin was removed from the case in April.
Brookins, who's a former assistant superintendent at TYC's West Texas State School in Pyote, has pledged to hire another attorney. But according to court records -- that hasn't happened.
A judge will hold a hearing on the matter Dec. 18.
A voice mail system for a number listed for Dolin office was full.
Jerry Strickland, a spokesman for the Texas Attorney General's Office, said the office has aggressively pursued the case and will continue to do so.
