FORT HOOD, Texas (KXAN) - Eleven soldiers from Fort Hood were honored Friday for their actions while serving Afghanistan. Nine of them were decorated for bravery under fire in the Adi Ghar Mountains of Southern Afghanistan.

The Silver Star is the nation's third highest award exclusively for combat valor. It ranks fifth in the precedence of military awards behind the Medal of Honor, the Crosses, the Defense Distinguished Service Medal and the Distinguished Service Medals.
