Store gets rid of using pennies to pay

MORRISVILLE, Vt. (NBC/NECN) - At Power Play Sports in Vermont, the price gun still spits out price tags with a 99-cent ending, but there are no pennies in this store.
"We don’t actively go out and get pennies in order to give people the appropriate change," said Power Play Sports worker Caleb Magoon.
Starting this month, the sporting goods store is rounding the change to the nearest nickel in the customer’s favor.
"The most I could possibly lose on any transaction was four cents," said Magoon.
He said he hopes the U.S. government follows his -- and Canada's -- lead when it comes to nixing the penny altogether.
It costs nearly 2 1/2 times more than its worth to produce.
