FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Fayette County sheriff’s deputies said the overnight burglary of a convenience store in West Point Tuesday was an inside job.
According to a news release issued Tuesday morning, a deputy noticed an open door with a broken window at The Point convenience store in West Point. West Point is a small city west of La Grange and east of Smithville off Highway 71.
The deputy said he noticed a four-wheeler outside “with numerous cartons of beer stacked on back.”
A bloodhound was called to the scene. The dog, named Rascal, was able to follow a trail nearly 3.5 miles to a home on FM 154.
When Bryan Ramond Cook Jr., 22, answered the door, the canine let deputies know that he was the trail they were following.
Deputies said they soon learned Cook was an employee of the burglarized store and was aware of the inner workings of the alarms and video security, which would enable him to get into the building easily.
Officials arrested Cook and booked him into the Fayette County Justice Center on burglary charges.
