LAKELAND, Fla. - An eighth grader in Lakeland, Fla., has been suspended from riding the school bus for reportedly passing gas.
"Jonathan passes gas on the bus to make the other children laugh and it is so stink [sic] that you can't breathe after he does it," the bus driver wrote on a misbehavior form obtained by the Ledger .
Locke acknowledges he laughed after he smelled the foul odor. But he said he's not to blame. "It was the kid who sits in front of me," he told the Ledger.
Jerome Corbett, senior director of specialized services for the Polk County School District, explained that there isn't a rule about passing gas on the bus, but there is one about causing disruptions.
Jonathan's father, also named Jonathan, found the situation petty. "You're not going to stop a kid from laughing if it's [about] passing gas," he said.
Last November, a 13-year-old student in Stuart, Fla., was arrested for reportedly passing gas and disrupting his classroom .
