FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A hidden floor compartment in the bed of a Texas truck led to a major drug bust in Fayette County -- worth $1.5 million.
Sheriff's deputy Randy Thumann stopped the truck Tuesday at the 659 eastbound mile marker on Interstate 10 for a traffic violation.
After Thumann met with the two San Antonio women inside the truck, both 23 years old, a couple of troopers showed up to help with the traffic stop.
The driver Janee Monique Smith and passenger Patricia Miraontes told police they could search the truck.
That's when officers found the fake floor compartment at the bottom of a tool box in the truck bed -- stashed with 55 pounds of crystal meth worth about $1.5 million on the streets.
Authorities arrested Smith and Miraontes and took them to the county jail. Both are charged with possession of a controlled substance.
