Fraserburgh, Scotland (NBC) - The world has a new strongest beer. And, oddly enough, it's wrapped in a squirrel.

Scottish brewery BrewDog just created a new ale called "The End of History." It's 55-percent alcohol by volume, or 110 proof. That's higher than most vodkas.

But it's not just the beer's eye-watering alcohol content that's turning heads. The packaging and price are also getting a lot of attention.

The brew comes in a bottle surrounded by a dead squirrel or weasel. Animal rights groups protested, but the company insists no animals died to make the unusual bottles.

"All the animals were road-killed animals, were dead. And we think it's a great way to present the beers," said BrewDog's co-founder James Watt. "And since it's our final installment in our series of high-alcohol beers, we wanted to do something special, completely different for the packaging. And the response so far from people who drink our beer has been fantastic."

The high alcohol content comes with a hefty price, too. Each bottle costs $770. That didn't, however, keep the limited run of 12 bottles from selling out in just four hours.
