Cool concerts in a crappy town contest

(CNN) - A Seattle radio contest has ruffled a lot of feathers in Iowa but it also got some ideas brewing.

The contest claims listeners will get to see a cool band in a crappy town. That crappy town: Des Moines, Iowa. The band: The Black Eyed Peas.

In promoting the contest, the Seattle D.J.'s have pounded Des Moines.

Instead of being insulted, Des Moines tourism official hatched an idea: When the winner comes to Des Moines for the concert, officials will roll out the red carpet. That includes staying at the best hotel, and eating at the best restaurants, all in the name of saving Des Moines' reputation.

Officials hope the winners will go back to Seattle and spread the word that the Midwestern town is not so crappy after all.
