AUSTIN - The storm slammed us at rush hour... and if you were one of the
unfortunate drivers out there... you know the chaos it caused.
Carla Castano was actually driving along 183 northbound right
in the midst of the mess.
There are hundreds of cars at one northwest Austin car dealership with damage.
Just on this one row of cars at the dealership there are at least a dozen cars with broken back windows and this only a small portion of the those hit.
"It started coming down. I looked behind me, the whole thing was shattered. No good at all," said Tracy Drolletti. She was just one of the hundreds of drivers traveling on 183 when the storm hit.
As I was driving down the frontage road of 183 at the McNeil
exit back windows were missing from car after car. A TxDOT camera
shows a car stalled on 183 - the driver obviously stunned by the
storm.
Some of the hail was so big and hit so hard, a piece of the
car body was knocked off.
Ricky Jackson lives just off of McNeil and 183. The back windows of both his cars are busted out. "Some of the hail went through our car and out of front window," said Jackson.
Many of his neighbors cars were also pretty badly hit. Including the Audi dealership about a block away, also just off of 183. Workers at the Roger Beasley Audi dealership worked fast to seal their cars from the rain., but the hail damage had already been done.
Crews will be out at the dealership working on the hundreds of damaged cars tomorrow. And the only plus in all of this, the dealership told me - quote - they'll be having one heck of a sale.
