Austin (KXAN) - A crowd packed the south end of the State Capitol grounds Saturday afternoon, as protestors called on Governor Perry to nullify any health care reform passed by Congress.

The current reform bill in Washington would require some people to purchase health insurance.  Protestors say that violates the Constitution.

"We believe there's a very significant requirement, and a need for reform of the health care delivery system in America, and the health insurance delivery system in America," said Terry Walker, the co-founder of New Revolution Now.

"The bill that's before Congress is unconstitutional, and really, that should be left to the states," Walker added.

If the bill passes, the protestors are asking state leaders to keep it from taking effect in Texas.  Activists want Governor Perry to declare a special legislative session to invoke the state's right to nullify the measure.

"We believe that, as the federal government continues to grow and get out of control, it's important for the states to assert their rights under the 10th Amendment and start to nullify federal laws that are unconstitutional," Walker said.

Organizers said supporters of the cause came from all over the state for the rally.
