BOSTON (NBC) - Abercrombie and Fitch is known for its racy ads for adults, but this time, its clothing for young girls is getting the attention.
A bikini top featured on the website Abercrombie Kids had a picture of a bikini and labeled it “push-up triangle.” The problem is Abercrombie Kids is marketed to children aged 7 to 14.
One professor said this type of marketing isn’t just off-putting -- it can be dangerous.
"It gets young girls to think about themselves in sexual ways before that's developmentally appropriate,” said professor Gail Dines of Wheelock College in Boston, Mass.
"It sends out really bad signals to adult men about young girls being appropriate sexual objects, and objects of sexual desire for young men,” added Dines.
After all the negative attention, the Abercrombie and Fitch Kids website has changed the wording to “lightly lined” triangle, but the item is still for sale.
