AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin school district police are investigating a possible sexual offense that happened while students were watching a video in a classroom at Covington Middle School.
A letter that went home on Thursday indicated several students may have been involved in the incident, which took place on Thursday, November 19.
"It was reported today that several students may have engaged in inappropriate behavior while the classroom was watching a video lesson," according Principal Candace Hughs' letter. "The behavior involved just a few students, but may be the subject of conversation, which may or may not be accurate."
According to a statement released by the district: "Parents and guardians whose children were involved in the incident have already been contacted. Counseling is being made available to students, as needed."
School officials held an assembly to address students' concerns on Friday.
"They talked about how inappropriate it was and how kids need to not be bringing that to school," one 8th grade student told Austin News.
Parents are hoping for more answers soon.
"They should investigate," said Juan Gonzales, whose grandson attends Covington Middle School. "I think they should let parents know what's going on at their schools."
No additional information was made available, due to student privacy concerns.
