HOUSTON (KXAN) - Bill White spent Election Day criss-crossing the state. He began the morning early, shaking hands in the rain at a Houston middle school, before traveling to San Antonio, Dallas, and back to Houston.
White attacked Gov. Perry's spending and told voters in Dallas that his opponent was not the fiscal conservative he claims to be.
"Fiscal conservatives do not live in $2 million rental mansions. And I have so many people across party lines to support me, it's incredible," White said Tuesday.
White campaign staffers said Tuesday they were encouraged by their own internal polling on early voting in the state's 15 most populated cities. They said Democrats outvoted Republicans by 1.5 points in those cities.
The White campaign expects more than 500 supporters of the former Houston mayor to gather at the Hilton of the Americas ballroom in Downtown Houston Tuesday evening for what they said they hope will be a victory speech, like the ones White grew accustomed to giving in Houston, when he was re-elected twice as Houston's mayor.
Before the watch party for White, staffers and volunteers continued to phone potential voters. They have called more than one million voters since Oct. 16.
