AUSTIN (KXAN) - A statewide effort for equality among the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community came to Austin Saturday.

Members of " GetEQUAL " performed a mass wedding ceremony for same-sex couples at the state Capitol.

Organizers said eleven couples, their families and friends gathered in Republic Square park to march to the capitol.

The couples said they were excited but some were a little nervous. They said aside from the certificate, they see it just like any other marriage.

The ceremony coincided with similar events across the state, including Dallas, Houston and Corpus Christi.
