GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) - A member of the State Board of Education announced Wednesday that she plans to enter next year's Republican primary for a state House seat.
Marsha Farney, a longtime educator who was elected to the state board in 2010, is hoping to succeed state Rep. Charles Schwertner, who announced Tuesday that he's running for the state Senate.
Farney, who lives in Georgetown, generally lines up with the moderate faction on the state board. She described herself as a "proactive advocate for improving (Texas) public schools."
Schwertner, who was also elected in 2010, decided to run for the Senate after Steve Ogden, a Bryan Republican, announced he was stepping aside after serving since 1997.
