A new poll released by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal shows Gov. Rick Perry is ranked fourth in a list of Republican contenders for the presidency – even before he has made up his mind to run.

Pollsters asked registered voters who said they would vote in the Republican Primary which person they would favor. The results are below:

  • Mitt Romney (30%)
  • Sarah Palin (14%)
  • Herman Cain (12%)
  • Rick Perry (8%)
  • Ron Paul (7%)
  • Newt Gingrich (6%)
  • Tim Pawlenty (4%)
  • Rick Santorum (4%)
  • Michele Bachmann (3%)
  • Jon Huntsman (1%)
  • Other (1%)
  • None (2%)
  • Not sure (8%)

Perry’s out-of-state attention shot up in the last week, as the governor has taken part in some big events across the nation. Los Angeles, New York, North Carolina already and New Orleans this weekend. On Thursday, it's a biotechnology dinner at the ACL Moody Theater in Austin.
