Palin fires up GOP crowds for Cruz

Runoff in US Senate race goes down to the wire

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) - Sarah Palin says that to be great again, America "needs fundamental restoration," not transformation.

The 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee addressed more than 1,000 sweating, enthusiastic supporters of tea party favorite and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz in a field north of Houston on Friday.

Cruz is locked in a nasty fight with Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The former Alaska governor said "fighters like Ted Cruz can lead the change for us."

The pair meets in a runoff election Tuesday after neither won a majority in the May 29 GOP primary. Cruz has been endorsed by top tea activists, and Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, while Dewhurst is endorsed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
