AUSTIN (KXAN/AP) - Hutchison reports a Republican gubernatorial runoff is possible, and is urging supporters to recruit nontraditional GOP primary voters for the upcoming March 2 election.
Hutchison said Monday it does not appear that she or Gov. Rick Perry has the backing right now of a majority of Republican voters.
Neither being a crowd favorite could lead to an April runoff, Texas showdown style.
GOP activist Debra Medina is also in the race. Hutchison, while addressing the Texas Farm Bureau, urged group members to enlist five or 10 people to vote in March who might vote Republican in a November general election, but typically not in GOP primaries.
She reports she does not feel she has to have those voters to beat Perry, but said she wants all the help she can get.
